Schlanser Design Studio
COMPANY INFORMATION
Schlanser Design Studio is an innovative company that unfolded from
a small stained glass studio in Southern California. The owner, Stephen
Schlanser, had spent an apprenticeship with Paul von Domarus a renowned
German glass artist, learning the art of the century old trade.
Mr. Schlanser took the medium into an exciting new territory by experimenting
with kiln fired glass where shape and form are created by heat and gravity.
Arising from the experiments, in 1990, Schlanser studio presented it's
first edition of the Schlanser designs.
Each piece is individually handcrafted by transforming sheet glass into
a collection of decorative vases, bowls and platters. They are carefully
shaped inside a closed kiln by heating it to melting temperature. Once
the glass has approached it¹s nearly liquid state, it gravitates
to the shapes as seen in the Schlanser line. After a gradual decrease
in temperature to a complete cool-down, each piece is handcut and high
polished on diamond wheels. Some of the vessels are composed with various
etched designs giving each of them it¹s individual flair. All designs
are hand drawn, cut and high pressure sandblasted. Once a piece has
proceeded through these work stages flawlessly, various polished or
hand chipped bases are permanently attached. Upon completion, each piece
is signed and dated.
The art glass is carried in galleries, gift and fine department stores
throughout the United States, as well as 35 countries around the world.
Schlanser Design Studio has been commissioned to do special projects
for the likes of The Coca-Cola Company, Disney, Rockwell and CB Commercial.
Recipients of Mr. Schlanser s work include First Lady Hillary Rodham
Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis.
The studio now operates an 8,000 square foot facility, including a kiln
department with 15 kilns that are run twice a day. The crew of 25 craftsmen
produces a line of over 100 different items that are shipped daily to
the studio¹s customer base of 1200 retailers.
The Schlanser collection appeals to a wide variety of buyers and compliments
many styles of interiors. As a first time buyer or an avid collector,
the striking yet serene appeal of this art glass will bring you lasting
enjoyment.
